Wales v South Africa pitch invader banned for life from Principality Stadium

08 Nov 2021 2 minute read
The moment the pitch invader runs on to the playing area.

The man who ran onto the pitch during the Wales v South Africa match has been handed a lifetime ban from all games at the Principality Stadium

The pitch invader was on the receiving end of the anger of fans at the stadium, including being pelted with beer, after he had run onto the pitch obstructing Wales player Liam Williams as he looked to score a try.

Principality Stadium manager Mark Williams said: “Working collaboratively with South Wales Police we were able to identify the pitch invader who entered the field of play during Wales v South Africa at Principality Stadium on Saturday 6th November 2021.

‘Condemns’

“The WRU, Principality Stadium and South Wales Police condemns any behaviour of this kind, and the individual will be issued with a lifetime ban from buying any tickets from the WRU for rugby events held at Principality Stadium in future.

“We were deeply disappointed to discover the individual is a registered player and member of a rugby club; and the WRU are currently investigating this as a Code of Conduct breach.

“I’d like to thank the pitch side stewards and on pitch security team who acted swiftly stopping the individual and escorting them from the field of play.

“For more than 20 years this stadium has been revered across the world for its unique atmosphere and game day experience. It’s extremely disappointing to think that by recent events the traditional game day experience is under threat and that we might be forced to look at additional measures that will impact on the fan experience in future.”

South Wales Police said it would be discussing the matter with stadium management.

A police spokesman said yesterday: “The 28-year-old man who intruded onto the pitch at the Principality Stadium on Saturday evening was escorted from the ground and ejected from the stadium.

“South Wales Police will discuss the matter further with the stadium management.”

Right decision by the WRU. And let this act as a warning to any other idiots thinking of doing anything similar in the future. And if reports that this cretin is a player with senghenydd RFC are true there needs to be a statement from the club as well – stating what disciplinary action they intend taking against him?

Can Nation Cymru please pay more attention to the accuracy of its headlines? He is not, “Banned for life from (the) Principality Stadium”. According to the story underneath, he has received, “a lifetime ban from buying any tickets from the WRU for rugby events held at Principality Stadium”. He can still attend other sporting events at the stadium or indeed, presumably, rugby matches where he gets his ticket from anyone other than the WRU.

What an absolute idiot! In top-flight internationals games are won & lost by the smallest of margins. And thanks to this numbskull meant a possible try scoring opportunity went by the wayside.

And not to say the outcome of the game would have been different, but a try could have changed the direction of the match. 😐

The actions of one idiot can affect all of us at the time and into the future. Does anyone have any idea why he did it?
