It’s been quite a week for Welsh rugby player Jasmine Joyce.

Last weekend she was hailed a superstar after her incredible performances lit up the World Rugby Sevens Series in Canada.

Playing for Team GB she showed why she’s one of the fastest female rugby players on the planet.

In a 41-12 victory against the USA, in the sevens tournament being held in Vancouver, she was at least 10 yards behind American flyer Jaz Gray, who is one of the quickest players in the world game.

However, not only did Joyce track her opponent down like a cheetah hunting its prey, she took out the American with a covering tackle that exemplified her fierce determination, much to the admiration of the commentators who were evidently shocked at what they had witnessed.

Then in the final, again playing the USA, she put on an extraordinary show in a 34-12 win.

Not only did the Pembrokeshire-born speedster score a hat-trick of tries, but she also won the Player of the Final award for an outrageous demonstration of sublime skills, that included tenacious tackling, brilliant ball handling and a sidestep that sent two USA players crashing into each other. In addition to her blistering pace, of course.

Silent assassin

She was hailed by commentators who amusingly described her as ‘a cheat code’ and ‘a silent assassin’ after pulling off that astonishing side step move that sent two USA players comically running into each other.

As the game kicked off the Welsh woman was like a rocket on the launchpad at the moment of take off, scoring tries in the first and second minutes, and grabbing a third on eight minutes in a comprehensive victory for Great Britain.

Now, in a chat with World Rugby Sevens she revealed how she smashed her personal best pace in her epic pursuit of USA payer Jaz Gray.

In a video where she evaluated some other epic sporting chases, she told how her previous best speed was 9.2 seconds per metre, but in her pursuit of the American she flew to 9.4 metres per second.

To put that into perspective if that was to translate to a 100m time at that pace, Jasmine would have clocked 10.64 seconds.

The current women’s world record is 10.49 seconds!

We’re not saying she’s the fastest female rugby player on the planet, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone with her electrifying turn of pace.

Just a shame she’s not playing for Wales. #noteamGB
