Welsh club offers ‘one of the most unique prizes in history of football’

Llantwit Major AFC

Welsh football club Llantwit Major FC have launched a unique competition – to name their stadium.

And according to the club – the winner of the raffle can “name our stadium whatever you want for the rest of the season – and we mean anything.”

The club which plays in the Cymru South division has risen through the divisions under the stewardship of current manager Karl Lewis. They now sit one league below the Cymru Premier.

The club is currently in second place in their division, however they are launching the competition to raise desperately needed funds.

“After playing at the lowest level for most of our history, the club was transformed by the appointment of current manager Karl Lewis,” said a club spokesman. “After winning the fourth tier, we then won the third tier the season after. That’s how we find ourselves in the Cymru South, one league below the Cymru Premier.

“At the time of writing we are in second place, two points behind the leaders. Unlike many teams in this division, our players play for free and we have very little financial backing.

“The funds raised in this unique competition will help us to make improvements to our ground, such as the addition of floodlights, new turnstiles, and a trophy cabinet to hold our Champions League titles once this goes viral and we become richer than Barca…Newcastle!”

Home games

This is how the competition works.

Buy a raffle entry priced £20, and enter the text you want for the new name of the stadium. The competition will end at 23:59 on Friday, December 3rd.

The club will then draw a winner the following morning, ensuring the stadium will be renamed in time for the fixture vs. Briton Ferry FC, and for the other seven remaining home games of the season.

Even if you don’t win, you can show proof of your entry at any future home game to obtain free entry.

The club adds: “You can call the stadium (almost) anything you want, just don’t be racist or discriminatory.

“Why not name it after yourself, your business, or a loved one? Or if you really want, you can call our stadium “The my mate Dave is a knob Arena” – knock yourself out!”

Llan twit major / translation. enclosure of the big twits. Perhaps the town would do best to think about reverting it’s name back to original ancient Welsh name before worrying about the name of it’s new stadium.
