Proposals to develop 12-acres of farmland into affordable homes

Plans to build 130 affordable homes on an area of farmland have been put forward to a council.

Castle Green Homes is behind the proposals to develop a 12-acre site at Quarry Farm in the village of Oakenholt near Flint.

The company previously held a consultation over the scheme which will see houses built on a plot which is bordered by the A548 Chester Road, Leadbrook Drive and the Croes Atti development.

A formal application has now been lodged with Flintshire Council in a bid to gain permission for the new homes.

Consultation

The total amount of properties is two more than the 128 originally proposed by the St Asaph-based housebuilders.

In a statement published on the firm’s website at the time of the original consultation, representatives for Castle Green said: “The proposed homes will comprise a range of two-storey one-to-four-bedroom properties and include a variety of flats, terraced and semi-detached properties.

“(They will) incorporate a range of measures including double glazing, energy-efficient heating systems, insulated flooring and a high standard of roof and wall insulation and will be delivered alongside our registered provider partner.

“In addition to the provision of on-site public open space, Castle Green Homes will agree on a range of financial contributions with the local planning authority as part of the planning application.

“(This will) provide funding for local facilities and infrastructure to mitigate the impact of the development.”

High standard

They added: “The dwellings, roads and associated landscaping proposed will be designed and constructed to a high standard.

“They will be entirely in keeping with the character of the surrounding area…offering a well-considered and attractive place to live for future residents and making a significant contribution to meeting the identified housing needs of Flintshire.”

Documents relating to the application have yet to be uploaded to the council’s website.

Feedback will be invited on the plans before a decision is made at a later date.
