Sunny with a chance of independence: Sky News weather report accidentally declares Wales a republic
Sky News has accidentally declared Wales an independent republic.
The country was described as “the Republic of Wales” during a weather broadcast this afternoon.
The presenter did not miss a beat, saying that “Northern Ireland, the Republic of Wales and western England will see plenty of dry and bright weather” during Thursday.
“But Scotland and the far north of England will remain cloudier.”
Did I miss the independence announcement? 😁 is there a @YesCymru mole at @SkyNews ? @bernapgwilym @CarrieAHarper @LloydCymru @LlyrGruffydd pic.twitter.com/bKuiNqb8YB

Social media reacted with glee to the mix-up with many declaring that the Republic of Wales “had a ring to it”.
“Have Yes Cymru infiltrated Sky News?” Chris Batsford asked.
“That sounded incredible,” Chris Giles said.
Gwilym Cox, however, realised that if the weather report was any indication of the future it was likely to be a drizzly one. “We’ll still have shit weather though,” he said.
