Audio: All the speeches and performances from Saturday’s march for independence in Caernarfon
Mark Mansfield
Saturday’s march for independence in Caernarfon exceeded all expectations in terms of the numbers of people attending. Initially, organisers hoped the turnout would beat the 3,000 plus at the first march in Cardiff back in May.
As the crowds assembled at Victoria Dock Car Park it became clear that target was going to be beaten by some margin.
45 minutes before the procession departed the police estimated over 3,000 had assembled and they kept on coming.
As the marchers wound their way along Caernarfon’s narrow streets and through the town wall, the official counters recorded just under 8,000 clicks. As they poured into Castle Square they joined close to 2000 people already in position to hear the speakers and performers including veteran protest singer and political activist Dafydd Iwan, Hardeep Sing Kohli, Lleuwen Steffan, Siôn Jobbins, Enfys Hâf Jones, Gwion Hallam, Meleri Davies and Elfed Wyn Jones.
If you couldn’t make it to Caernarfon you can catch up with all of the speakers and performances below.
