Esgusodwch fi? First Welsh podcast for LGBTQ+discussions

15 May 2021 2 minute read

The first Welsh language podcast specifically for LGBTQ+ discussions was launched today.

Esgusodwch fi? (Excuse me?) was launched by the BBC Cymru Fyw news site.

Presented by actor Meilir Rhys Williams and LGBTQ+ and mental health campaigner Iestyn Wyn, the 12 part series will invite familiar faces to share their personal opinions and experiences on identity and current affairs, to laugh and chat, and to discuss and debate with no holds barred.

The first episode is available here on BBC Sounds.

Meilir said: “I’m really looking forward to inviting everyone to be part of the conversations we may not be familiar with having in Welsh. This podcast will be an opportunity for people to ask questions, to discuss and to shine a light on other perspectives and issues in the LGBTQ+ community here in Wales and beyond. Thank you BBC Wales for supporting our ideas and for creating the public space for us to have these important conversations.”

Iestyn said: “I’ve really looked forward to launching Esgusodwch fiWorking on the podcast with Meilir has already been so much fun – we’ve been planning since August! We can’t wait to create and share the content. More than anything, I’m looking forward to welcoming lots of interesting guests to join us and to hear their opinions, experiences and stories.

“Wales is full of interesting LGBTQ+ people and it’s about time we had a podcast that gives the LGBTQ+ community in Wales a voice – and why not do that in a podcast that will be a bit of everything; from the light hearted chat, to the conversations that will put the world to rights.”
