Backing for Welsh independence has come from an unlikely source – a New-York based American rock band.

Wheatus, best-known for their 2000 single ‘Teenage Dirtbag’, wrote that Welsh independence could be “the only intelligent move” if Brexit happens.

They were responding to a message from Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price about yesterday’s pro-independence march in Cardiff.

“Today, I will be proud to march alongside my fellow citizens from all across Wales to proudly declare that Wales’ brightest possible future is as an independent nation at the heart of Europe,” the message said.

Responding, Wheatus said: “Interesting times. If Brexit actually happens I think this is the only intelligent move.”

The independence march in Cardiff attracted a crowd of between 2,000 and 3,000.
