An auction of polaroid pictures of actor Michael Sheen has helped raise £19,000 for an organisation that helps vulnerable people.

Sheen is a patron of Adferiad Recovery who thanked him for his support and The White Curl which is a non-profit organsiation dedicated to raising money for Welsh charities.

The series of one-of-a-kind pictures were taken while he was starring in a play in London earlier this month “capturing a snapshot of this time in his life”.

The auction was hosted via The White Curl’s Twitter account and donations were made through JustGiving.

Adferiad Recovery said: “We would like to say a HUGE thank you to The White Curl and Adferiad Recovery patron Michael Sheen for raising an incredible sum of over £19,000 for us by hosting an online polaroid campaign.

“The Polaroids were then signed by Michael and auctioned online between the 7th and the 14th of August, with 100% of the proceeds going to Adferiad Recovery.

“Through the course of the week The White Curl tweeted a variety of lots for potential buyers to bid on, with the highest-earning lot being sold for an astonishing £3,085!

“All lots included the original signed polaroid print as well as a variety of extras such as signed programmes, digital copies of the polaroids or footage of Michael signing the prints.

‘Limited run’

It added: “While all original polaroid prints have now been sold, The White Curl is currently offering a limited run of merchandise featuring some of the polaroid images in exchange for donations to Adferiad Recovery. The organisation wanted to ensure that the campaign was accessible to all and so items of Michael Sheen merchandise can be purchased from their online store from as little as £5.

Adferiad Recovery was created when four Welsh charities – Adferiad Recovery, CAIS, Hafal and WCADA – merged to become Adferiad Recovery

It helps people with mental health problems, substance misuse problems, and those with co-occurring and complex needs.

After becoming patron earlier this year, Michael Sheen said: “The times we are in are challenging in so many ways and all of us are having to adapt in order to move forward.

“I’m so happy to be Patron of the newly formed Adferiad Recovery as they bring together multiple sources of support and experience to meet the challenges that lie ahead.”

If you are interested in purchasing any of the Michael Sheen merchandise on offer, you can do so here for a limited time.
