Welsh actor Rhys Ifans torpedoes hopes he’ll play Rod Stewart in a biopic
Welsh actor Rhys Ifans has torpedoed hopes that he’ll play Rod Stewart in a biopic.
The Notting Hill star suggested that he’s too old for the role, despite him being the 76-year-old rocker’s first choice for a film about his life.
Stewart said last year he would love to see Ifans slip in to skin tight leather trousers to play him, but that prospect now looks unlikely.
He has been keen to create a big screen version of his life following the success of other biopics of music legends, such as Elton John’s Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody on the legendary rock group Queen.
When asked about the prospect of playing Rod Stewart in a biopic by Rob Brydon on the Brydon & podcast, he said: “Twenty years ago, maybe.
“I think I’m long past my sell-by date. It’s definitely not going to happen.”
He did, however, agree Rod’s life would make perfect material for a big screen drama, saying: “I think it would be a great film.”
Rod Stewart has previously said: “Yeah, Rhys would be a very good idea. [But] he has got to do something with his barnet.”
