‘Why we didn’t support England in the Euros’: Wales supporters react to video of English fans’ mockery

Welsh fans have reacted to a video of English fans mocking them uploaded online, saying that “this is why we didn’t support England in the Euros”.

The video recorded during Wales’ 3-2 victory against Belarus shows England fans outside Wembley stadium singing “No sheep sh*****s in Qatar”.

It was uploaded before Gareth Bale scored the crucial winner, netting a hattrick and ensuring that Wales took the full three points in the game.

Welsh fans reacting online noted that the video “didn’t age well” as Wales won the game and are still on course for the World Cup in Qatar next year.

But others said that the video also showed why they didn’t throw their support behind England in the Euros and last World Cup when asked to do so by the media.

BBC Wales had asked listeners “Are we all English now?” after England advanced to the World Cup quarter-finals. WalesOnline also posted an article during the Euros entitled ‘All Welsh people should now be supporting England in Euro 2020’.

“Remember the weeks of ‘Should Welsh people support the England football team?'” George Andrews asked.

“Imagine you supported England in the Euros,” Harry Thompson said.

Others noted that the English fans’ preoccupation with Wales suggested that they weren’t as dismissive of the Welsh football team as they claimed.

“Wales living rent free in English heads,” Dafydd Carhart said.

“Sorry. I appear my nation is living rent free in your nation,” Rhys Wynne said.

Contrary to the claim made in the chant, Home Office figures showed that of the 27 offences of having intercourse with an animal recorded between 2007 and 2016, 25 took place in England.

And their queen gives medals to child predators including her own son. The same queen they sing about in their national anthem.

The Rogering of Rupert You’ve made it to this page, I hope you found some words to keep. But ‘come on Bard’, I hear you cry, ‘You’ve barely mentioned sheep ! A sheep against a five bar gate Was putting up a fight Now Dai of course was stealing sheep, Lord Rupert was the source. Hanging then for thievery, So Dai claimed intercourse ! No we don’t. I go to matches home and away and can categorically state that this isn’t true.

Wales and England are always going to be sporting rivals. Does Portugal support Spain because ‘We are all European’. Do Swansea fans support Cardiff, Newport or Wrexham because “we are all Welsh”?

100% this. We can’t claim England are our rivals and then get offended if they mock us. That’s what rivalry is!

The worst thing about this is how painfully unoriginal it is.

Yes, rivalry is one thing, but using racial slurs, another. There can be banter, but sometimes it turns ugly

I can mock English fans regarding their team missing penalities, and they Wales regarding never qualifying for tournaments , it’s harmless fun, although hurtful and true, but if they in return chant disgusting slights like Sheep******* and other stereotypes crosses the line into hate..

“We love the aggression of rivalry, but only if we get to do it”. Sad

I will never support England in any form due to the hostile attitude towards Wales and the derogatory comments made towards us by their numbskull fans. What I find annoying, is whenever England reaches a final in any sport, BBC Radio Wales does a phone-in asking listeners: “Are you supporting England, and if not, why not?.” Remember when Wales reached the semi-finals in the Euros last and was the only British team left in the tournament , not once did I hear the BBC in England do similar phone-ins or hear their national & regional journalists questioning English passerby shoppers… Read more »
