When Rob McElhenney was looking to announce that Apple TV had renewed his comedy series Mythic Quest for a further two seasons, the Wrexham FC co-owner thought it best to enlist a Welsh legend and everyone’s favourite football manager to do the job.

As we know from his superb viral videos with Ryan Reynolds, the actor loves a humorous and offbeat promo – and that’s exactly what we get from McElhenney, Anthony Hopkins and Ted Lasso (aka Jason Sudekis)

The video is a hoot, with the Welsh star mispronouncing Rob’s name as ‘Ron’ and abruptly interrupting the Wrexham co-owner to take a call from Ted Lasso star, Sudekis.

It’s not the first time there’s been interaction between McElhenney and ‘Ted Lasso’.

The Apple TV+ football comedy had poked fun both at Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s takeover of Wrexham.

The Hollywood duo fired back with a joke letter demanding “2 large boxes of Ted Lasso’s biscuits” to be sent to the club “to avoid legal action”.

The club confirmed that legal action had thankfully been avoided, tweeting: “A man of his word, thanks @TedLasso! Better late than never, 50 boxes of forgiveness are gratefully accepted” – sharing a photo of Wrexham players with the gift boxes of biscuits.

The hit award-winning show follows the titular coach who is unexpectedly recruited to coach English team, AFC Richmond, despite having no experience in association football.

The show received 20 Emmy Award nominations, winning seven, including outstanding supporting actress for Hannah Waddingham, best supporting actor for Brett Goldstein and outstanding lead actor for Jason Sudekis.
