Full line up announced for Swansea’s Gŵyl NAWR festival

A one-day festival of experimental music including sets from Pat Morgan of legendary Welsh band Datblygu is set to take place in Swansea in November.

Gŵyl NAWR 2023 (NOW festival) will take place across two floors at the Tŷ Tawe venue in the city centre on Saturday 11 November.

The festival is part of a series of multidisciplinary concert in Swansea and Hay-on Wye.

NAWR will feature sets from Welsh artists creating left-field and experimental music in a variety of genres including lo-fi, free jazz, alternative folk, and music.

There will also be a programme of short films curated by the NAWR team, including “Put Blood In The Music”, Charles Atlas’ documentary on Sonic Youth and the New York music scene, “The Magic Sun” by Phill Niblock featuring Sun Ra & amp; His Solar Arkestra, and Gwenno’s “Tresor” short.

Pat Morgan from legendary Welsh band Datblygu will headline the main stage upstairs, while alternative folk singer-songwriter Elspeth Anne will close the downstairs stage.

The day will also feature sets from several artists using the Welsh language in their work in varied and exciting ways.

Gŵyl NAWR 2023

The event is the latest in a series of collaborations between NAWR and Menter Iaith Abertawe, Swansea’s Welsh language Initiative.

NAWR’s work aims to offer an open and reflective space for an audience to experience new music in a welcoming and intimate setting.

Menter Iaith Abertawe’s work involves creating opportunities for people of all ages to use and enjoy the Welsh language.
