Listen: Gary Barlow sings in Welsh on new Christmas album

04 Dec 2021 2 minute read

Gary Barlow can be heard singing in Welsh on his new Christmas album.

The former Take That member can be heard singing ‘Mae Santa Clos ‘di bod’ – Santa Clause has been.

He is heard singing in a duet with Aled Jones on the album The Dream of Christmas. The song ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ is based on the Welsh language song  Clychau’r Ceirw by Al Lewis.

Despite translating the song to English it retains one verse in the original Welsh during which both Aled Jones and Gary Barlow can be heard singing.

Gary Barlow has also collaborated with Sheridan Smith on the festive ‘How Christmas is Supposed to Be’, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason on the spellbinding ‘The Colder It Feels’, and vocal harmony trio The Puppini Sisters on festive classic ‘Winter Wonderland’.

“We were all trying to make Christmas feel good last year,” Gary Barlow said “It was a really hard Christmas for so many because of the scenario we all found ourselves in. So to try and make things a bit special, I started writing these songs.

“I had never listened to those classic Christmas songs with the idea of singing them myself, but as this record evolved, so did my appreciation for these wonderful songs.

“It all started off as a bit of a dalliance in the studio and before I knew it, I had a whole album!”
