Manic Street Preachers are to play an intimate show at St David’s Hall in Cardiff as part of a concert series announced by Radio 2 today.

Zoe Ball announced on her breakfast show that the Manics will be performing for Radio 2 Live at St. David’s Hall on Thursday 12th August in front of a small audience of fans.

Manics’ frontman James Dean Bradfield said: “We are really excited to be playing St David’s Hall in Cardiff on August 12th for Radio 2 Live. I’ve seen bands and artists including The Waterboys, Echo and the Bunnymen, John Grant and Gary Numan perform on stage there, and myself and Nicky Wire busked outside of it in the mid 80s. Hopefully we can add to the musical memories we have experienced there.”

Ticket registration

Manic Street Preachers performed for Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park in 2013 and 2018, and previously performed a Radio 2 gig for fans in their home town at Blackwood Miner’s Institute, Wales, in 2011.

Fans will have to register for tickets to be in a chance of being at the Cardiff show.

Tickets will be allocated via a ballot following registration here –  which is open from now until 8am on Friday 30th July. Allocations will be weighted with more going to those living closer to Cardiff. Full terms and conditions are on the website.

All the events will be managed in line with Covid guidelines at the time, and ticket holders must adhere to any restrictions in place at their venue locations on the dates of the recordings.

Their best small gig since notoriety landed on them was Blackwood Little Theatre.
