Welsh rock favourites unveil new single ahead of autumn album release

Welsh rock band Candelas are back with a brand new single ahead of their highly anticipated new album this autumn.

Their single titled ‘Dwynwen’ has been released on the I KA CHING record label this week. The song has been described as a love song and pays tribute to lead singer Osian’s family.

Talking about the track, he said: “At its core, this is a love song.

“My sister had a baby not long ago, and the moment I heard the name in the car, the song’s hook came straight into my head.”

“I think this is one of the most enjoyable songs I’ve ever written, and I love that a Jeff Buckley influence somehow found its way into it out of nowhere! This song contains everyone in the band’s favourite moment on the album… but we’re not going to tell you where!”

Candelas are a ‘raucous’ blues-tinged rock band from Llanuwchllyn, north Wales, and released their first EP Kim Y Syniad in 2011. Their new album ‘Pop Cymraeg’ will be released on 20 November 2026.

Having already been struck by the title track from Candelas’ fourth album before the summer, “Pop Cymraeg”, here comes another powerful and compelling track to leave us floored before the album reaches our hands.

‘Dwynwen’ will be Radio Cymru’s Track of the Week on Monday 7 September 2026, and a music video will follow very soon.

“Pop Cymraeg” will be released on 20 November, and there will be an opportunity to see a live performance of the entire work at a special launch event at Theatr Derek Williams, Bala, on 28 November.

With support from indie rock band TewTewTennau, the night is expected to be a celebration of Welsh language music.
