Aberystwyth, mon amour? New map reveals how many people in Wales are having affairs – and where

If you’re from Bangor, you can rest easy knowing that your partner probably isn’t having an affair behind your back.

If you’re from Aberystwyth or Penarth, however, it may be time to start googling ‘signs my partner might be cheating’.

A new map from the website IllicitEncounters.com shows how many people in different parts of Wales are having affairs, and where they live.

The website includes a postcode tool that anyone can use to look up how many are having an affair in their area.

The university city of Bangor in the north-west of Wales is the city with the lowest numbers in the UK using the site to have an affair, at only 0.31% of the population.

Newport in the south-east however ranks highest in Wales with a full 5.86% of the population – or 9,162 people – having used the website.

Of Wales’ towns, Penarth and Aberystwyth take the top spots with 3.87% and 2.61% of their populations respectively using the site.

The makers of the site say that they have seen a rise in affairs over the last year, due to the end of pandemic restrictions and people unhappy with their partners during lockdown as the country returns to normal.

IllicitEncounters.com spokeswoman Jessica Leoni said that the cheating had taken off “particularly since the start of autumn with almost all adults double jabbed”.

“Record numbers of people came back from their summer holidays miserable and looking for excitement after 18 months of being bored and stuck at home with their partners,” she said.

“We have enjoyed the busiest year in our history with women, in particular, looking to start afresh and joining in unprecedented numbers.

“The cheating surge will continue as more of us return to the office in the run-up to Christmas. Adulterers often use work as a way to cover up their affair.”

Or maybe just talk to your partner instead.

Disgusting! What a cruel and dastardly thing to do to your husband or wife.

Remind us what is suppose to differentiate this site from the likes of the ReachPLC empire with their AnytownLive sites?
For good reason there has been a lot of concern about controlling relationships and domestic violence, and here we have people advised to “start googling ‘signs my partner might be cheating’” by the unnamed author of this piece.

If your partner is cheating on you, what’s to say you’d become controlling and abusive rather than just leaving them?

Sense of perspective…
