Adam Price has called for Boris Johnson to resign after senior No 10 staff  were caught joking about holding a Christmas party amid lockdown restrictions.

The Leader of Plaid Cymru said the “Prime Minister must go” in response to a politically explosive video released by ITV News yesterday.

It showed Boris Johnson’s then spokesperson Allegra Stratton joking that party “was not socially distanced” and suggesting to pass it off as “a business meeting”.

The jokes were made by No 10 staff days after the party was held at Downing Street. This was while lockdown restrictions were in place.

Stratton was asked by colleagues about reports of a party as they rehearsed a news conference in December last year. However, Downing Street is continuing to insist no party took place.

Adam Price said: “While we longed, they laughed. While we mourned, they mocked. While we stuck to the guidance, they stuck two fingers up. It really is one rule for them and another for everyone else. It’s time to stop the party. The Prime Minister must go.”

Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville Roberts said: “It’s the Prime Minister who should show courage and leadership to his government, face the cameras to apologise for rank hypocrisy, and resign.”

Labour’s Westminster leader Sir Keir Starmer said last year’s event in No 10 showed it was “one rule for them and another rule for everybody else” but called on the Prime Minister to apologise rather than resign.

Starmer is more comfortable in opposition. He’ll never do anything but support Westminster Tories.

Another weak response from Starmer….. It’s time for an autonomous Welsh Labour party. Price says what everyone thinks.

Johnson will not resign, and is being give a smooth ride by Starmer in Westminster. The only time Johnson will go, is when he is no longer a viable option to the Tory party. Then he will be removed, just like Thatcher.

Boris Johnson won’t quit. He’s a born coward. Adam Price is more of a leader than Boris Johnson will ever be. With this revelation can now see the Conservative circus tent collapsing around Boris’s sorry head. I think his time is up. And no amount of ruffling his hair or acting the fool will repair the damage done. We in Wales now see how lucky we are to have devolution rather than be controlled centrally by this arrogant shambles of a Conservative Government in London. And if any good can come out of this Conservative Covid calamity, is the thirst… Read more »

“Adam Price is more of a leader…..”If only. Instead of worrying about other’s conduct ,perhaps he should look to his own? He appears to be unwilling/unable to control the behaviour of senior officers of his own party. When he has himself been mislead by The Plaid leader of CCC and knows that Plaid members as well as the Executive Board have also been mislead you would think he might take the appropriate action? He describes this particular case ( which he has been aware of the problems for 17 plus years) as ” the worst case of nonfeasance that I… Read more »
