A member of a new political party campaigning for Welsh independence has published a book urging others to join up.

Gwlad! Gwlad? An Invitation To A Party by Aled Gwyn Jôb, will be officially launched at Galeri, Caernarfon on Thursday, November 1st at 7.00pm.

There will be other book launches in November in different parts of Wales, in Mold, Aberystwyth, Swansea and Cardiff.

The book takes the form of a series of diary entries over the year discussing developments in the Welsh political landscape.

According to the author Aled Gwyn Job it has been a “rollercoaster ride” of a year for Welsh politics, including the tragedy of Carl Sargeant and Plaid Cymru’s leadership contest.

The book

The book also charts the development of political party Ein Gwlad, from the original public meeting held to discuss setting up the party in Aberystwyth in the Autumn of 2017 to the launch in Llanelli in August 2018.

“It’s been a momentous year here in Wales when you think about it,” said Aled Gwyn Jôb, who is a translator, blogger and church worker from Caernarfon.

“I can’t remember a year like it to be honest, and I’ve been following Welsh politics for some considerable time.

“The Brexit vote itself in 2016 was earth-shattering in itself. But the disruption and change which has emerged from that vote has just continued apace, and Wales has been particularly affected by all this.”

The author added that the title of the book is a play on words, with an invitation to join Ein Gwlad on one hand and the party-like atmosphere in engagement around the core idea of independence.

“The latest opinion poll published a few weeks ago showed that support for Welsh Independence has shot up from 7% to 19% in a year,” he said.

“Brexit has been the biggest shot in the arm for the Welsh national movement since Tryweryn.”
