Cardiff is one of the most generous parts of the UK, according to an app that collects data on how much cashback people give to charity when shopping.

People in Cardiff gave 63% of their online cashback to good causes, according to the company Kindred, despite only being required to give away 1% by default.

Glasgow, Manchester and York were the only UK cities where people were more generous with charity donations while online shopping than Cardiff.

Meanwhile, people staying at Cornish holiday hotspot St Ives were the “stingiest tippers” with only 2.7% of cashback donated to charity, Kindred said. The people of Luton, Sunderland, Derby and Peterborough gave 3.8%, 4.4%, 6.3% and 6.6% respectively.

Aaron Simpson, founder and executive chairman of Kindred, said the figures showed that Cardiff residents were among the most generous people in the UK.

“All of our UK shoppers should be proud to be giving away an average of 57% of their cashback,” he said.

“While there’s no obligation for our users to give more than 1% to charity, it’s amazing that so many people are choosing to donate more than half of their savings.

“We’re proud to be earning money for charity every time a user saves money, and we’re hoping to raise millions of pounds for good causes this year.”
