City centre roads to close as Cardiff 10K returns

Thousands of runners will take to the streets of the Welsh capital next month, with a series of road closures planned for the Cardiff 10K.
The Kidney Wales Cardiff 10K takes place on Sunday, September 6, starting at 10am, with rolling road closures operating along the route from 9am until 1pm.
Closures will affect major routes through and around the city centre, including North Road, Castle Street, Cowbridge Road East, Cathedral Road, Westgate Street and St Mary Street.
Restrictions will begin the previous day in the Civic Centre to allow organisers to set up the race village.
King Edward VII Avenue, Corbett Road, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road will be closed from 5am on Saturday, September 5, until 6pm on Sunday.
Race day
On Sunday, rolling closures will be introduced on North Road from its junction with Colum Road, continuing towards Boulevard de Nantes and the A1461.
The A1461 will be affected between North Road and Kingsway, along with Kingsway, Duke Street and the whole of Castle Street.
Cowbridge Road East will be closed at various points between Castle Street and Kings Road, while Cathedral Road will be affected between Cowbridge Road East and Penhill Road. All side roads exiting onto Cathedral Road will also be closed.
Other affected city centre roads include Boulevard de Nantes, The Friary, Friary Gardens, Westgate Street, Wood Street, Golate, Guildhall Place, Quay Street, Central Square, Scott Road, Havelock Street and Park Street.
St Mary Street will be closed between Mill Lane and Guildhall Place, while High Street will be affected between Castle Street and Guildhall Place.
Closures will also affect Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road, as well as Fitzhamon Embankment, Despenser Street, Despenser Lane, Despenser Place, Plantagenet Street, Beauchamp Street, Clare Street, Lower Cathedral Road, Brook Street, Mark Street, Green Street and Coldstream Terrace.
Neville Street will be closed between Cowbridge Road East and Lower Cathedral Road, while Wellington Street will be closed inbound towards the city centre from its junction with Leckwith Road.
A number of roads around Sophia Gardens and the Cathedral Road area will also be affected, including Hamilton Street, Talbot Street, Sophia Close, Sophia Walk, Spine Road, Plasturton Place, Dyfrig Street, Kyveilog Street, Sneyd Street, Dogo Street, Berthwin Street, Teilo Street, Gileston Road, Meldwin Street, Fairleigh Road, Fields Park Road, Denbigh Street, Fairleigh Court and Heol Wilf Wooller.
Penhill Road will be closed inbound from its junction with Llandaff Road/Cardiff Road.
A lane closure will also operate on Western Avenue between Excelsior Road and Mill Lane.
Access
Cardiff Council said access to Blackweir will be available via Park Place and Corbett Road during the closures.
Access to Queen Anne Square will be managed via Colum Road and Corbett Road, with vehicles leaving via Corbett Road onto Colum Road.
The usual ban on turning right from Colum Road into Corbett Road will be temporarily lifted for access to Queen Anne Square, with traffic management stewards controlling vehicles.
From 9am until 6pm, access to Greyfriars Road will be managed at the junction of Boulevard de Nantes and Park Place for buses and residents and businesses in the area.
The rolling road closures are expected to be lifted by 1pm, although the Civic Centre restrictions will remain in place until 6pm.
