Council steps in to provide Saturday bus service after commercial operators show no interest

A new Saturday bus service is being introduced on a rural route after commercial operators showed no interest in running it.
Ceredigion County Council has commissioned the weekend service on the 585 between Lampeter and Aberystwyth, which also serves communities including Tregaron.
The council said it had worked with local transport providers to develop a service using a minibus after failing to attract commercial interest in operating the route on Saturdays.
The new service is intended to provide access to employment, education, shops, healthcare and leisure facilities for people who rely on public transport.
Cllr Shelley Childs, Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Environmental Services, said: “Public transport plays a vital role in helping people access work, education, services and social opportunities.
“We are pleased to be introducing this new Saturday service, ensuring that communities along the 585 route remain connected and have access to key destinations across the county.
“This is a positive example of how the Council is working creatively with local providers to safeguard important transport links for our rural communities.”
