A group of friends from Ceredigion have launched the first ever Welsh language escape room – inside a caravan.

The idea for Jengyd (escape) came about as the crew from Llanddewi-Brefi attempted to come up with community activities during the Covid-19 era.

They created the first escape room in the New Inn pub in Llanddewi-Brefi, organizing the activity in a way that was in line with the restrictions, keeping each group in their bubbles and disinfecting the props.

Having found the day a success, the six teachers – Dorian, Iwan, Elan, Enfys, Lynet ac Emyr – decided to develop the idea into a caravan that can travel around Wales.

Teams will have to work together to solve a series of puzzles and clues in the kitchen of Christine Bott and Richard Kemp, two of the leading scientists involved in the famous LSD drug campaign, Operation Julie, in the 1970s

Groups will compete against the clock as they search for keys to open locks, codes to solve puzzles, and more.

Enfys Hatcher Davies, one of the founders of the initiative, said: “We are very excited to welcome visitors to the Jengyd caravan. Choosing the first theme was easy, as we lived on the doorstep of the all-crazy campaign – Operation Julie.

“For those who will not be able to visit the Jengyd caravan, we have also created the Escape Room scenario in an envelope – a different Christmas present!

“The mystery of the envelope will take you back to the great snow of 1982. A lot of fun and a lot of head-scratching for the whole family!”

The caravan will make its debut at Pontrhydfendigaid Christmas Fair on November 28.
