Historic sailing tradition to celebrate 150th event

One of the UK’s oldest sailing traditions is set to return to a seaside town in Wales this August with a landmark celebration.
The Cardigan Bay Regatta will mark its 150th event with three days of sailing, sporting competitions and entertainment from 18 to 20 August 2026.
Sue Rees, Vice-chair of Cardigan Bay Regatta Committee said:
“Reaching our 150th regatta is a truly significant achievement and a proud moment for everyone connected with the event.
“For generations, the regatta has brought people together to celebrate our maritime heritage, enjoy friendly competition and create lasting memories.
“We are looking forward to welcoming sailors, participants and visitors to New Quay for what promises to be a very special celebration.
The event, in New Quay, has a history tracing back to the 19th century when it was held for the first time.
The three-day event will include sailing races, inshore sports, and family-friendly activities and welcomes all ages to Cardigan Bay.
Visitors can take part in swimming, kayak and paddleboard races, treasure hunts, crab catching competitions, barrel-filling challenges, and a model boat building competition.
“Whether competing on the water, taking part in one of the many inshore activities or simply soaking up the atmosphere around the harbour, we are encouraging people to join this landmark anniversary event and be part of a historic chapter in the regatta’s story.
The event is planned and staffed entirely by volunteers.
