Holiday cabins and sauna plans for Anglesey village with links to Tudor dynasty

Baths were not known to be a regular feature of medieval life – but if King Charles’s distant relative Henry VIII were to return to his family’s ancestral Anglesey village he could take a dip in a sauna – if plans go ahead.

Anglesey County Council is to consider an application for the development of five holiday lets and a sauna bath – as part of a development in the historic village of Penmynydd which has links to the royals.

The village is known for being the home of the Tudors of Penmynydd, which became the House of Tudor and led to the current British monarchy.

Anglesey County Council planners will consider a full application for the change of use of land in to into a holiday chalet site at  a property at the far edge of village on Lon Penmynydd.

The proposed site is located about half a mile from the Grade II listed Plas Penmynydd which was known as the medieval home of the Tudors.

The applicant Mike Hampson, of Y Glas Farm Anglesey Ltd , with Belfast agents Koto Design Ltd,  has asked for the plans to be considered  at a property which is close to the B5420 near the Ceint river.

Holiday chalets

The plans include demolition of existing sheds, the erection of five holiday chalets, the building of a sauna building, as well as alterations to two vehicular accesses, construction of a new parking area together with landscaping.

The area includes an existing residential property and the proposed development is to be located on land to the east of the property that was used as an equestrian centre by the previous owner.

The plans describe the current use of the site as “Split across two parcels of land which are intersected by the B5420.

“The northern plot of land is bounded by a small stream to the north and presently contains a greenhouse and a small barn in poor repair.

“The land to the south of the road is a residential property and land to the east that was used as an equestrian centre by the previous owner.”

A report by Westwood development, also describes a social area to include a playground and volleyball area.

“The existing house, annex and immediate gardens are not included in the application but some existing sheds at the site are to be demolished,” a report in the plans, reads.
