Just two areas in Wales haven’t seen any Covid deaths, while one is among the worst hit in the UK

Just two neighbourhoods in Wales have not recorded a Covid death during the pandemic, according to new data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

But Wales also has one of the areas most badly hit by Covid-19 in all of Wales and England, the two nations that the ONS’ statistics cover.

The two areas in Wales with no recorded deaths were Llandudno Junction South & Llansanffraid Glan Conwy, in Conwy and Rhyl South West, in Denbighshire.

Meanwhile, Tonyrefail West was the seventh most impacted area in all of Wales and England with 57 deaths overall until February.

Crabtree & Fir Vale in South Yorkshire is the worst hit in the entirety of Wales and England with 75 deaths

Of the 7,201 MSOA neighbourhoods in England and Wales, just 17 had not recorded a death from coronavirus as of the end of February 2020.

The ONS figures refer to deaths in Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs), which are small geographic areas consisting of roughly between 5,000 and 15,000 people, used by government and statistics agencies to measure local data.

Bangor City was previously included in January among the areas that had seen no deaths in Wales, but saw one death in February.
