The King’s coronation cost taxpayers £72 million, official accounts have revealed.

The figures included £50.3 million of Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) costs and £21.7 million for the Home Office for policing the “once-in-a-generation” event in May 2023.

Charles was crowned at Westminster Abbey in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from around the world.

Concert

A star-studded concert at Windsor Castle took place the following night.

The DCMS annual report and accounts said the department “successfully delivered on the central weekend of His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation, enjoyed by many millions both in the UK and across the globe”.

DCMS

DCMS was the lead government department working with the royal household on the coronation, which it described as a “once-in-a-generation moment which provided an occasion for the entire country to come together in celebration, and offered a unique opportunity to celebrate and strengthen our national identity and showcase the UK to the world”.

And where’s constipated Conservative Andrew RT Davies aka “Mouth of the South” when you need him? Nowhere to be seen or heard. Odd, usually the gob has an opinion on money spent in Wales but strangely this precocious plonker lost his tongue. How vulgar to know that £72 million was spent on that German adulterer Charles Saxe-coburg Gotha’s coronation in one day? Imagine how many doctors & nurses could have been employed by the Welsh NHS. What a waste of money? Prince William was gifted his title Prince of Wales without fanfare or cost. Why not Charles? Oh, silly me.… Read more »

Oh, but the Royals ‘bring so much money into the country’ apparently. With so many people in poverty and the current government being blamed for freezing pensioners, I wonder where it all goes. These, I suppose, are the ‘priorities’ that count as ‘British values’.

Shocking amount considering the increasing irrelevance of the English royals, breath-taking that the next generation of Sax-Coburg-Gotha’s came to our country this week harping on about poverty being so unfair.

At least we in this country can be very proud that our attitude against them forced the cancellation of their Prince of Outsiders investiture farce in Caernarfon.

Worth every penny. Let us not forget that it wasn’t just Carlo who enjoyed dressing up that day, The fragrant Penny Mordaunt and the upstanding Justin Welby also had fun in their colourful robes.

Like the streaming TV channels that are now so fashionable perhaps we should make royalty a subscription model too. Pay towards it if you like it but opt out if you don’t. After all it’s not life or death is it ? unlike the NHS where I’ve paid a life time’s subscriptions in N.I and taxes and yet have no chance of meeting my GP unless I jump through hoops and spend years on waiting lists for surgery.

I thought the coronation was the daftest, funniest thing I’ve seen on television for along time.
A barrier placed around him halfway through the ceremony (the commentary said he was being anointed, I think he went for a p***), flunkies in fancy dress, people with funny tiles (I can’t imagine what the clerk of the back stairs does…) and two pensioners with pretty buckets on their heads.
Hilarious!

Utterly daft, especially when you can get a decent Chinese made guillotine on Amazon for £59.99 (not including delivery).

They should all be down the Jobcentre looking for real work instead of sponging off the taxpayer.

I’m not sure. I didn’t see anything abusive on here which leads me to believe it may have been false information about the Royals’ net worth to the taxpayer.

A good excuse to dress up in ridiculous outfits and prance around in public. God only knows what they are up to behind closed doors.
