Labour candidate calls for tactical voting on Senedd regional list to ‘keep Conservatives out’

A Labour MS has called for tactical voting on the regional list to keep the Conservatives “out of Wales”.

Newport West incumbent Jayne Bryant said that the constituency was a battle between Labour and the Conservatives but on the regional list “far more parties can win”.

“Labour voters will be voting tactically to ensure the Conservatives are kept out of Newport and Wales,” she said. “Use your vote tactically to do the same.”

The Labour party are very unlikely to win any seats on the regional list in the South Wales East, South Wales West and South Wales Central regions because they dominate the constituencies there.

They are however likely to pick up regional seats in Mid and West Wales and North Wales, where they do not dominate to the same extent.

Jayne Bryant’s plea in a letter to voters in her constituency comes after her neighbour, Newport East incumbent John Griffiths, also told voters to vote for “whichever party you wish to support” on the regional list.

In a letter to voters, Newport East incumbent John Griffiths, who has represented the seat since 1999, said: “Newport East is a two-horse race between Welsh Labour and the Tories — and a vote for Plaid or the Libs Dems rather than Labour will risk a Tory victory.

“Of course, you also have a second vote for the South East Wales regional list which you may use for whichever party you wish to support.”

Never felt so positive about Labour before. Well done Jayne! Next step, an alliance with other non-right-wing parties for the General Election on a mandate to implement PR

I agree totally with Morris Dean. In the meanwhile congratulations and best wishes to Jayne Bryant for having the courage to speak up for common sense.

Vote Green Party and deny Abolish a seat. The last seat in SWE is a straight race between the Greens and Abolish.

It’s between the Tories, Abolish and Green Party for the 4th seat on the South Wales West regional list. If you want voices in the Senedd to stand up for Wales and local democracy, then Vote Green on the regional list.
