Laurence Fox has been dismissed from GB News following on-air comments he made about journalist Ava Evans on Dan Wootton’s programme.

Presenter Calvin Robinson has also been sacked after sharing support for Wootton online.

Actor-turned-politician Fox made a series of personal remarks about political correspondent Ms Evans, including asking “who would want to shag that?”, on the Dan Wootton Tonight programme on September 26.

Fox and presenter Wootton, who have both since apologised, were suspended by GB News after the broadcast, alongside Robinson, who hosts a religious current affairs programme on the channel.

Internal investigation

On Wednesday, GB News confirmed both Fox and Robinson had been dismissed, while an internal investigation into 40-year-old presenter Wootton is continuing.

A statement from the broadcaster said: “Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson were both suspended last week pending internal investigations that have now concluded.

“As of today, GB News has ended its employment relationship with Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson.

“The internal investigation into Dan Wootton continues.”

It comes after UK media watchdog Ofcom confirmed it had received a total of 8,846 complaints about the broadcast.

Since the broadcast, MailOnline announced it had terminated its contract with Wootton, who was a columnist for the site.

GB News boss Angelos Frangopoulos previously said he was “appalled” by the remarks, adding that they were not in keeping with the values of the channel.

Free speech = fundamental
Journalistic integrity = non-existent
Common decency = a thing of the past
With all the weird police stuff aside, all the (other, numerous) reasons not to like Ava Evans, the sacking of these two incautious, hyperbolic, lightweight blah-merchants is 100% justified. Talk about disrepute. They’ll still have their platforms – don’t get swayed by the misappropriation of a “freedom of expression” argument that’ll come from tribal corners. They messed up: animus and stupidity end like this when decent people still exist in decision-making positions. Gives me hope.

Ha! Cancel claimers canceled by their own far right anti cancel station. Of course they are still free to spout hate.
How is Wootton doing. Still at the mail…..?

Angelos Frangopoulos is apparently ‘appalled’ by the remarks made about Ava Evans stating that they are ‘not in keeping with the values of the channel’. They are entirely in line with the ‘values’ of the channel given that Dan Woottons’ nightly opening phrase is ‘no spin, no bias, no censorship’. Oh dear! What, in view of the latter word, has happened here then? Is misogyny the one bigotry they don’t do? The channel now has no option other than to sack Wootton having sacked another presenter just for supporting him. When they do show him the door, they should keep… Read more »

If Rishi Sunak had an ounce of the decency his wife claims he would sack Suella Braverman on the spot…
