Mark Drakeford in self-isolation after contact with someone who has Covid-19

Welsh Government. St David’s day: First Minister Mark Drakeford

The First Minister of Wales is self-isolating at home “as a precaution” after being in contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

Mark Drakeford, 66, is not believed to have any symptoms of the virus.

He has been giving video evidence to the Welsh Affairs Committee this afternoon.

Welsh Government guidelines state that anyone self-isolating must do so for 10 days and have a test.

Mark Drakeford had been living in an outbuilding at the bottom of his garden, as his wife, Clare Drakeford, 66, and her 94-year-old mother, had both been shielding from the pandemic due to their health conditions.

The First Minister previously said both women contracted the virus and fell ill earlier last year, but recovered. They have both now had a vaccine for Covid-19.
