A farmer has said that he has “never seen anything like it” after a calf with three eyes was born on his farm on the Llŷn peninsula.

The third eye on the forehead of Jake Jones’ calf was spotted by visiting vet Malan Hughes.

“I rear about three thousand calves a year and have never seen anything like it!” Jake Jones said.

“I asked the vet what it was while she was was testing it for TB and she said it was an eye!”

Malan Hughes from Pwllheli shared a picture of the calf saying she “could not believe what we spotted today” and asking if anyone else had ever seen such as animal.

“Having a calf or any animal with this impairment is extremely rare,” Malan Hughes told Nation.Cymru. “I have never heard of, or seen one like this before.

“The calf seems perfectly healthy. We were doing other work with the herd when we noticed the fault. He will surely live a normal life for such an animal.”

The calf may have been born in the wrong country – in 2014 a three-eyed calf called Shiva born in Tamil Nadu, India was worshipped as a religious deity.

Two-faced lamb used to be exhibited at the Zoology Museum at Bangor University, but I believe it was a stillborn.

Plenty of two faced politicians doing the rounds. We got rid of some of the worst cases last week. Just waiting now for the new crop of wasters to emerge.

Hope that calf goes on to enjoy a long, healthy and happy life down on the farm.
