Outline plans for ‘luxury’ glamping pod to be built in ‘wetland nature’ area of Eryri

Planners will consider a scheme to build a “luxury” timber framed glamping pod in an area of Eryri known for its “wetland nature.”

Cyngor Gwynedd has received a submission for an outline planning permission – (all or some matters reserved) to build the holiday accommodation on land beside Rhesdai Gwyrfai at Waunfawr.

It has been submitted by Toby Cawte of Stay Snowdonia through agent Elfyn Williams.

The wooden building is also located in the area of the Afon Gwyrfai, near the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway line in a part of the national park known for its stunning mountain vistas.

The 35 square metre proposed development site would be located beside the A4085.

Dwelling

The application address describes it as as being “near the junction of the road leading to Rhosgadfan, which gives access to Bryn Gloch Farm”.

The plans sat the “holiday accommodation” would be “on land adjoining an existing dwelling house under the same land title and owner”.

The glamping hut would be on stilts “due to the wetland nature of the land, the glamping hut will be built on raised platforms reducing disruption to the environment”.

Overflow

Storm water would also be collected for reuse and overflow would be drained into a natural soakaway on the land.

“Grey and brown water will be drained into a septic tank. The recycling from the hut would also be removed “on a business recycling account,” the documents stated.

An access statement also details how the development “will ensure inclusive access for guests and minimise its impact on the surrounding environment”.

Guests would “utilise existing off-road parking at the owner’s property”. The proposal also noted “the hut will intentionally be built without a kitchen to encourage the guests to explore the range of fantastic pubs and restaurants that Snowdonia has to offer”.

Consultation over the planning application ends on May 28, 2024.
