A Plaid Cymru MP has slammed Boris Johnson for allegedly saying that he would rather let “the bodies pile high” than order a third lockdown.

Liz Saville Roberts, who represents Dwyfor Meirionnydd, said it showed that “people’s lives mean nothing” to the UK Prime Minster.

It is claimed that he made the remarks after reluctantly imposing a second lockdown on England at a crucial meeting back in October.

He is alleged to have said: “No more ****ing lockdowns – let the bodies pile high in their thousands!”

This reportedly came after Michael Gove warned Johnson that soldiers would be needed to guard hospitals that we’re overrun with Covid-19 victims.

Downing Street has strongly denied that he made the comments, which were reported in the Daily Mail following a toxic row with his former advisor Dominic Cummings, saying it was “just another lie”.

Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville Roberts said: “PM Johnson lets slip Tory values: thousands of people’s lives mean nothing when it comes to propping up the interests of the privileged few”.

Labour Senedd candidate and former Welsh Government minister, Alun Davies, reacted to the story by saying: “I don’t think that we have ever appreciated our own government and our own democracy in Wales as much as when we read this.”

Dominic Cummings is expected to use his appearance before a Commons committee next month to criticise Boris Johnson’s handling of the pandemic.

A source told the Daily Mail: “The PM hates the idea of lockdowns. He kept saying ‘there’s no evidence they even work’ and that ‘it goes against everything I’ve stood for’. But he was outnumbered – and ended up sitting in sullen silence as the others told him he had no choice.”

The best thing about a story like this is that even if it isn’t true, it sounds so much like something Boris would have said that it really doesn’t matter if he did or not.

If you start peddling lies about Boris then you are no better than him peddling lies about you ! And there’s no need to get down to that level as there are plenty of uncomfortable truths about the man that need to be disseminated and understood.
