Plans to add more homes to major housing development approved
Ted Peskett – Local Democracy Reporter
Plans to add more homes to a large housing development on the outskirts of Cardiff have been signed off by the city council.
Developers Persimmon Homes said it has been given planning permission by Cardiff Council to build 74 more homes on the site known as The Parish in Capel Llanilltern.
Outline permission for the construction of 1,500 homes on land south of Creigiau just north of junction 33 of the M4 was granted in 2018.
A number of residents in Capel Llanilltern recently complained about issues with flooding in the area and the increased level of traffic from new housing developments, like the nearby Plasdwr scheme.
However, Persimmon Homes South East Wales director, Lee Hawker stressed the development will offer high-quality homes for local families.
Mr Hawker, said the company is “delighted” to have secured reserved matters planning permission from the council and that they are determined to leave a “positive and lasting legacy”.
The latest phase of the development will be called Glan y Coed and will provide four and five-bed homes for the open market.
Persimmon Homes said the homes will be ready for purchase in 2025.
Community
The site will also include community sport facilities, like a multi-use games area, and a new playground.
Mr Hawker added: “We look forward to continuing our work with Cardiff Council and the local community as Glan y Coed and the wider Llanilltern Village site progresses, delivering high-quality new homes in a sustainable community for local people.”
Earlier this month we spoke to residents in Capel Llanilltern who said a lack of drainage is causing flooding which damages properties and causes huge splashes of water from passing vehicles.
One person who lives on Star Lane said the flooding causes silt and debris to build up on the curtilage of her home.
Another resident who lives opposite the Star Lane junction said small rivers run along his driveway after periods of heavy rainfall.
Cardiff Council said remedial work is taking place in Capel Llanilltern.
When Cardiff Council ward member for Pentyrch and St Fagans, Cllr Rhys Livesy, asked the council last month about the drainage issues at Capel Llanilltern he was told that quotes had been obtained from contractors to install new gullies and carry out clearance work to the culvert along Star Lane.
The council’s cabinet member for waste, street scene and environmental services, Cllr Norma Mackie, added that works would begin during the school summer holidays.
