Reform vows to use tariffs to press countries to take back migrant deportees

Reform UK will pledge to use tariffs to force countries to take back migrants in plans expected to be unveiled next week.

The party has already said it would impose “visa freezes” on those wanting to visit the UK legally from countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Syria if they do not accept deportees.

These would halt any new visas for nationals of those countries – as well as Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia – which the party would target due to having significant levels of visas issued to the UK.

When it comes to other countries that would not be greatly affected by such a measure but have trade with the UK, the party is now saying it would go further with sanctions such as tariffs and airline bans to apply more pressure.

Egypt is a potential example, according to The Sunday Times, which first reported the tariff plan.

Foreign airlines could also be banned from using British airspace and citizens from those countries barred from transit under the measures.

Reform also plans to strike deals with third countries to deport those “extreme cases” where no country is willing to take them back, or it is inappropriate to return them to their home country.

The party also wants to review every refugee status granted for the five years prior to a Reform government taking office.

Nigel Farage said: “I will not tolerate countries who won’t take back illegal migrants.

“I’ll impose tariffs, airline bans and visa bans on any country that refuses.

“Only Reform will end the invasion of our country forever.”

Russian asset says what?
Blokes thick. trump uses this ploy and it doesn’t work. Since his brexit we are no longer able to call any shots on trade like we used to. EU will take us to the cleaners with his attitude.

The UK Global Tariff applies to all goods imported into the UK unless (a) the country you’re importing from has a trade agreement with the UK, (b) a specific exception applies, such as a relief for certain goods or (c) the goods come from the developing countries trading scheme (DCTS). It’s basically a copy of the same EU tariff arrangements since Brexit. It’s a strange policy as the latest annual trade balance with Syria – Imports £1, exports £5m and Afghanistan – Imports £13m, exports £48m. So a tariff will just damage UK exports. As for Pakistan, it’s a member… Read more »

I’m sick of Trump fan boys Reform, I’m sick of Trump and his heinous gang, I can’t wait to see the back of the lot of them on both sides of the Atlantic. These times feel like dark days when hate, division and inhumanity has risen to the surface like scum on a pond. I guess there were Medieval times now we’re in Modernevil times.

And how do they intend to do that when they’re on course to finish third behind the Tories at the next general election? Didn’t they come fourth in Holborn and St Pancras, barely holding on to their deposit?

Trumpian tariff copycat is threatening us with being reverse tariffed now. The photo seems to show a man who has lost his mind yet didn’t have one to lose. Mass deportations must never take hold BUT if they do, no exemptions and an example must be set based on the Katie ‘should never have been allowed’ Lam line. This means going back in time as far as apparently necessary to achieve purity so Farij has a choice of France or Germany (oh, lucky him), Yusuf to Sri Lanka, Zahawi to Iraq, Braverman to Kenya or Mauritius, Patel to Uganda, Badenoch… Read more »

We can see the one and only focus of any Reform government – immigration. Where are it’s other policies and who else will they find to work in our NHS, pick fruit in our fields and even run out corner shops? A certain amount of immigration is healthy and Reform’s fixation with it will only hurt the country.

A failed state is hardly going to have a national airline and lucrative luxury car export market they want to protect. This is an acknowledgement at least that they can’t simply kick folks out without an agreement with their home country.
