Residents oppose plans for timber lodges on Caravan site

Residents are objecting to plans for timber holiday lodges to be sited on a caravan site.
Applicant Peter Davidson has applied to Conwy County Council’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of the land for 15 timber holiday lodges at Tyn Terfyn Caravan Site on Llanrwst Road, Tal-y-Bont.
The application is part retrospective following the completion of three lodges and the commencement of construction of another five lodges on the eastern part of the site.
Council officers have advised the committee that they are minded to grant planning permission.
But several residents have sent letters to Conwy objecting to the development as well as the community council.
‘Unacceptable’
Kimberley Heginbotham wrote to Conwy County Council objecting to the plans. “The proximity of the holiday lodges to my property is unacceptable,” she said.
“I live in a single storey property and can easily see the holiday lodges that have already been built from my front windows. They are ugly and out of character and ruin my view across the Conwy Valley.”
She added, “I am concerned about the level of noise disturbance due to the close proximity of the holiday lodges.”
She also had concerns about an increase in traffic.
Diane and Barry Williams also wrote a letter to the council objecting to the plans with concerns about the size of the units, parking, and drainage.
Drainage concerns
Cllr Goronwy Edwards also sent a letter to the planning department with drainage concerns and said the increase in size of the operation would result in the touring park becoming a ‘residential dwelling development’. Cllr Edwards also said the proposed development would reduce the recreational area available to existing residents.
The planning application will be debated by councillors at a planning committee meeting at Conwy’s Bodlondeb HQ on Wednesday 8 May.
