S4C is to spend an additional £100,000 on digital content aimed at people learning Welsh.
The broadcaster said the money would be used to produce new material for its social media and digital platforms, adding to its existing Welsh-learning provision.
The investment was announced by S4C chief executive Geraint Evans at the National Eisteddfod during a discussion hosted by the National Centre for Learning Welsh.
Production companies will be invited to submit ideas for the new content through an open call this autumn.
S4C said its existing Dysgu Cymraeg social media accounts had increased their reach by more than 50% during 2025-26, while the number of followers more than doubled.
Mr Evans said: “Those who choose to learn Welsh deserve every support, and research by the National Centre for Learning Welsh shows just how important many people consider S4C’s content to be as a vital resource for learning.
“It is a natural step for us therefore to review and continue to grow that provision for this important audience; the aim is learning while enjoying great content across our digital platforms.”
The National Centre for Learning Welsh will work with S4C on developing the new material, with content intended to support people at different stages of learning the language.
The two organisations already work together, including through a dedicated Welsh-language tutor who has spent the past year supporting people working at S4C and in the wider broadcasting industry.
The tutor works with presenters, contributors and behind-the-scenes staff who are learning Welsh or seeking to become more confident using the language.
Dona Lewis, chief executive of the National Centre for Learning Welsh, said more than 20,000 people were currently learning the language.
‘Build confidence’
She said: “There’s a lot of interest from our learners in watching Welsh content, both for enjoyment and to reinforce what they’re learning in their classes, and to build confidence in speaking the language.
“So the partnership with S4C is really important to us as we work together to create opportunities for our learners and new speakers to enjoy the language.
“We also want to support people working in the industry to strengthen their skills, and we’re really proud to support the channel and the TV industry by providing a dedicated Welsh Learning tutor.”
The additional investment comes as S4C pursues a strategy of producing more material specifically for digital platforms, while the Welsh Government continues to pursue its target of one million Welsh speakers by 2050.
