A teenage Covid-19 stats whiz has removed the contact form from his website because of “abuse”.

Lloyd Warburton, who has been keeping Wales updated with the coronavirus figures, said it’s the only way to “get rid” of those abusing the feature.

The Ysgol Penglais pupil became an internet “statistics sensation” after spending the pandemic creating a coronavirus stats website, amassing over 23,000 followers.

In December of last year he won an award for his work from the S4C show Dathlu Dewrder (Celebrating Bravery).

Last month he announced that he was bringing his daily bulletin to an end. After 430 days of posting Covid updates, he said that he would only post weekly updates from now on but may return to posting daily should the pandemic go “pear-shaped”.

Lloyd said: “Due to continued abuse of the feature, the contact form on my Covid site has been removed.”

‘No blocking’

When asked if he could just block those who are being abusive, he said: “No, because they use different, fake, email addresses. The only way to get rid of them is to remove the feature. There’s no blocking here unfortunately!”

Ruth Crowther said: I’m sorry. What’s wrong with people?”

Richard Hughes said: “So sorry Lloyd…. what is wrong with people?”

Laura Camilleri said: “Sorry to hear this, you have been a star updating everyone during the pandemic, I’ve found your posts fab.”

Sammie Lloyd said: “I understand, and sorry you been subjected to abuse. You’re still awesome.”

Liz Butler said: “They’re just a bunch of idiots @LloydCymru. Don’t let them get you down.”

Christina Morgan said: “Sori you are getting more abuse. Seems to me many people have lost all self control and reason”.

If ever there was a story that proved the need for civility, patience and scrutiny/counterpoint from experts, this is it. The braying of the mob has silenced the voices of reason.

This is a bit like the earlier story about K Williams. In some ways even worse. This young man was generating info, not putting any kind of government or party line on it. FFS what is wrong with weirdos out there, in this case probably Covid deniers who can’t get over that bad cough they been chugging for the last few months.

I agree.

Ever since restrictions have lifted and the peripatetic Anglo has arrived at his righful pied a terre, then so rise the viscious attacks on any Cymro (aes) for who trailblazing for Cymru is a threat.

As every Covid denying Cymro will keep his counsel, then the proliferating Old Carthusian entitle gammon ruins it.
