Typo-ridden petition to remove Mark Drakeford as First Minister signed by over 10,000

Over 10,000 people have signed a petition – which has a typo in the word Wales – to remove Mark Drakeford from the office of First Minister.

The petition, started by Nicky Morgan on change.org, criticises Mr Drakeford for imposing covid restrictions, but contains a rogue apostrophe in the name of the country he leads – twice.

Drakeford is described in the petition as “Wale’s First Minister”. This however has not deterred many signatories as the petition has attracted over 11,000 supporters so far.

The First Minister announced on Monday that pubs, bars, restaurants, and cafes across Wales will not be able to serve alcohol and must close by 6pm from Friday.

Indoor attractions including cinemas, bingo halls, bowling alleys, soft play centres, casinos, skating rinks and amusement arcades, museums, galleries, and heritage sites, will also have to close completely.

The First Minister said that this was a response to a “stark” rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Wales.

 

‘Petition’

The petition says: “Mark Drakeford Wale’s First Minister, is single handedly set on ruining Welsh tourism and Welsh Small Business with his delayed response in getting Wales reopened.

“We are going to be far behind the rest of the UK at his request. This isn’t about science and keeping people safe, this is about 1 man in Welsh Government holding onto power.

“Telling us it’s unlikely any tourism or small business will be fully operationally, if at all this summer, isn’t acceptable.

“We need someone who is for tourism and small business and wants to protect our economy.

“Get him out, vote change. Protect small business, protect people’s futures and protect your local economy. Get this man out.”

The latest restrictions have also led to the First Minister being barred from more than 100 pubs by West Conwy Pubwatch group. They said Drakeford would not be allowed to enter their members’ premises for at least 18 months.

Alun Davies, the Senedd Member for Blaenau Gwent branded the decision “personal abuse”.
