Urdd Eisteddfod postponed until 2021 due to coronavirus
One of Europe’s largest youth festivals has been put on hold this year because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Eisteddfod yr Urdd festival was due to be held at Kilford Farm near the town of Denbigh this year during the 25-30 May half-term week.
All three Urdd camps – Glan Llyn, Llangrannog and Cardiff – will be closed for the time being, and all local and regional Urdd eisteddfodau will be cancelled as well.
Urdd chief executive Sian Lewis said: “It is a real disappointment to us all to have to close our camps and cancel our events, but the safety and welfare of our staff, members and supporters is an absolute priority.
“The movement, formed almost a century ago on principles of a firm commitment to Wales and fellow man, will discuss the current situation with Government Ministers and also look at how the Urdd and its staff could be used to respond to the growing challenges facing the elderly and vulnerable in Wales because of this virus. ”
