Wales Under-21s begin Euro 2023 qualification with goalless draw against Moldova
Wales began their Euro 2023 Under-21 qualification campaign with a goalless draw against Moldova at Stebonheath Park.
Without the injured George Ratcliffe, Christian Norton and Brandon Cooper – and with Rubin Colwill unavailable after he was a surprise inclusion in Rob Page’s Euro 2020 squad – Wales were unable to reproduce the 3-0 win they enjoyed against Friday night’s opponents in the penultimate game of the last campaign.
Paul Bodin’s team would have gone into half-time behind had Dan Barden not made a fine save.
Wales’ task was made more difficult midway through the second half when Sion Spence was shown a second yellow card for simulation.
However, the remaining 10 men rallied and came close to a winning goal late on but Joe Adams powered his header from seven yards out against the crossbar.
