Welsh Government agency plans new base in grounds of famous castle

A Welsh Government agency has been given the go-ahead to restore a deteriorating historic building and turn it into a regional base.
Cadw plans to renovate The Grove, in the grounds of Caerphilly Castle, which is currently in a “poor state of repair” and used for offices and storage by its conservation team.
The early 20th-century building, off Crescent Road to the northeast of the castle, was originally constructed as a private home.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has now granted planning permission for a programme of restoration intended to secure its future use and improve its energy efficiency.
The work will include structural repairs, a new roof, replacement doors and windows and new insulation.
Changes to the appearance of The Grove are expected to be minimal, although solar panels could be incorporated into the new roof.
The proposals follow a major multimillion-pound Cadw restoration project at neighbouring Caerphilly Castle.
Planning officers said the work would “restore the building, improve its energy efficiency and secure its ongoing use”.
No objections were received during the public consultation, and planning permission has been granted subject to conditions.

The Grove is built on a old Roman settlement which has been ignored by cadw, why ?
