Jack Moylan nets winner on debut as Cardiff see off Swindon

Jack Moylan scored the winner on his Cardiff debut as the Championship new boys squeezed into the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 win over League Two Swindon.

Moylan – who joined Cardiff in midweek from Lincoln – curled in the winner in the 77th minute.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder had only come on as a substitute five minutes earlier, but he reacted quickly to finish calmly after Yousef Salech’s set-up.

Salech had earlier scored twice as the Bluebirds came from a goal down to lead 2-1, before Paul Glatzel scored a 62nd-minute equaliser for Swindon.

Salech – who top-scored for Cardiff last season with 14 goals – proved he is likely to be the Bluebirds’ main goal threat now they are back in the Championship.

He scored his first from the penalty spot in the 29th minute after Swindon’s Mitchell Clark had handled.

The Danish forward then struck with a crisp volley after 43 minutes following a cross from Cian Ashford.

Ian Holloway had begun his 30th season in management by seeing his Swindon side take a deserved ninth-minute lead.

Louis Millard drilled a low shot towards the far corner, which was deflected in for an own goal by Cardiff’s Gabriel Osho.

Swindon substitute Joseph Hungbo made an impact with a deep cross for Glatzel’s leveller and team-mate Ollie Palmer hit the post late on before James Debayo was dismissed in added time for a second yellow card.
