S4C confirms new appointment to key role

S4C has appointed the executive producer of its football programme Sgorio as its new Sports Commissioner.

Seiriol Dawes-Hughes will take over from Sue Butler, who is stepping down after 12 years in the role.

Mr Dawes-Hughes has spent 18 years with production company Rondo Media, where he began as a researcher before working as a producer and director and later becoming a department head.

He is currently executive producer of Sgorio, which provides S4C’s Welsh-language football coverage.

The broadcaster’s current sports portfolio includes United Rugby Championship matches and Wales internationals, with S4C recently securing rights to show all Wales games in rugby’s new Nations Championship for the next four years.

Its football coverage includes Wales internationals as well as the Cymru Premier and Genero Adran leagues through Sgorio, while the channel also broadcast live stages and highlights from this year’s Tour de France.

Mr Dawes-Hughes said: “I am very much looking forward to joining S4C at an exciting time for the channel.

“Sport is a key part of S4C’s offering and I am looking forward to working with the production sector to maintain S4C’s place as the Home of Welsh Sport across all platforms.

“I would like to thank S4C for the opportunity to join the team, and my colleagues at Rondo for eighteen very happy years of collaboration.”

Ms Butler is expected to work with Mr Dawes-Hughes during a transition period later this year before leaving the post.
