S4C has struck a deal to show every Wales match in the Guinness Six Nations for the next four years.

The Welsh language broadcaster will be the only place to watch live coverage of every Wales match, after securing an agreement with the BBC and ITV, the primary rights holders.

S4C’s Clwb Rygbi Rhyngwladol, will bring live coverage, analysis and reaction to every match, starting with Ireland v Wales on Saturday 5 February.

Catrin Heledd, Clwb Rygbi Rhyngwladol host, said: “This is fantastic news for Welsh rugby. For a great many Wales supporters, it is the highlight of the rugby calendar. It is a privilege to be part of it and to be able to bring Welsh language coverage to viewers at home.

“Wales are the reigning champions and the competition is as fierce as ever. We hope you can join us in Dublin for the opener.”

S4C missed out on Wales’ autumn internationals as the rugby fixtures are taken off terrestrial TV for the first time.

Amazon ran its own Welsh language feed of the matches. It was the first time a commercial broadcaster has offered a Welsh language option for rugby.

The tech giant allowed a Welsh-language 40 minute extended highlights programme to be shown on S4C an hour after the final whistle of each fixture.

This is why I love S4C. It’s our channel that we can watch our football and rugby national teams for free. So shove it up your a*** Amazon.

What is also good about S4C is, that as a Welsh broadcaster, it shows the national football and rugby teams live, unlike ITV Wales, who seem to think we want to watch the english football team live. Why ?

The BBC only interested is England and London should they change the name from the BBC to EBC or LBC and that would be a good reason for the Welsh people to stop paying for the TV licence

Enjoy S4C coverage far more than the BBC or other alternatives. However we do not need the increasing amount of pre and post match chatter, it really is a pain. It’s the same old, same old speculative gassing and raking over. Less would be more.
