Swansea City sign Scotland striker Ross Stewart on three-year deal

Swansea City have signed Scotland international striker Ross Stewart on a three-year deal following his departure from Southampton.

The 30-year-old joins the Swans as a free agent and will wear the number 31 shirt for Vitor Matos’ side.

Stewart scored nine goals in 27 league appearances last season and was part of Scotland’s squad at the 2026 World Cup, coming off the bench against Morocco.

He spent three years with Southampton after joining from Sunderland in 2023 and helped the Saints win promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs in his first season on the south coast.

Stewart scored 11 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions last term, including eight in 16 games during the latter part of the campaign as Southampton reached the Championship play-offs and FA Cup semi-finals.

His arrival gives Matos another option in attack ahead of the new season.

The Swansea head coach said: “Ross is an experienced and proven performer in the Championship, and we are delighted to have him as part of what we are trying to build here at Swansea City.

“In our conversations he has made clear his hunger and desire to be an important senior figure and leader in our dressing room.

“His goalscoring record shows he is someone who relishes responsibility and we look forward to getting down to work with him and settling him into the group.”

Albion Rovers

Stewart began his career in Scotland, playing for Albion Rovers, St Mirren, Alloa Athletic and Ross County before moving to Sunderland in January 2021.

He established himself as a prolific scorer during his time on Wearside, finding the net 40 times in 81 appearances in all competitions.

Stewart helped Sunderland win promotion from League One through the play-offs and was part of the side which established itself back in the Championship.

He also won the EFL Trophy with the Black Cats at Wembley.

The striker moved to Southampton in the summer of 2023 and was part of the squad which returned to the Premier League at the first attempt following victory in the 2024 Championship play-off final.
