Watch: Football fans celebrate ‘the greatest goal you’ve never seen’
Social media isn’t usually a place for unified thinking.
A bear pit for opposing opinions it has in a rare moment come together and agreed upon one thing.
Namely that Peter King’s sublime volley for Cardiff City against Middlesbrough in 1970 is one of the greatest goals you’ve never seen.
When the aptly named Twitter account @ForgottenGoals posted a video of King’s incredible volley in a game at Ninian Park, it left those viewing the clip astonished.
Had never seen this before. Incredible strike. Peter King for Cardiff v Middlesbrough on this day in 1970 #ccfc pic.twitter.com/egaQKz9hhn

The black and white video shows a Middlesbrough player skying a mishit clearance so high you expect it come back down with snow on it.
The Bluebirds winger, who made more than 400 appearances for Cardiff City between 1960 – 1974, then smacks the ball (which let us not forget were far heavier in those days) so sweetly it flies off his foot and into the top bins passed the ‘Boro keeper who can’t quite believe what has just happened.
Of course, if it were Messi, Ronaldo, Bale or Salah who had scored such a worldy we’d be replaying it ad inifinitum to the end of days, but at least Peter King has finally received there adulation he deserved.
All hail the King!
