Disgraced Delyn MP accused of sending ‘cringey’ birthday cards to 18-year-olds
The Delyn MP who was recently suspended for sexual misconduct has been criticised for sending a ‘cringey’ birthday card to an 18-year-old.
Twitter user Sharon Hitchcock has posted images of the card she says her niece received from Rob Roberts to mark her 18th birthday.
The Conservative politician has only just served a six-week suspension and calls for his resignation for sexually harassing a former parliamentary intern.
Posting photos of the card, Sharon Hitchcock said:
@mrjamesob just when you think it cannot possibly get any more cringey! This was sent to my 18yr old niece from disgraced/suspended MP Rob Roberts. Hmmmm, shud my 18yr old niece take him up in the offer if a chat!?! Oh and loving his job description…he is suspended! pic.twitter.com/itQnIUx3nj

Automated?
It’s likely that the 18th birthday cards are being sent out as part of an automated marketing system used by the Conservative Party to connect with voters in the Delyn constituency.
The cards feature a photograph of the Houses of Parliament on the cover with what appears to be a personally signed ‘Best wishes’ message from Rob Roberts.
On the inside cover, there’s a message saying: “Turning 18 is not just about being old enough to vote at election time, but making decisions for yourself about your future life and career.
“As your MP, my job is not just to represent you in parliament but to work on behalf of all residents living in Delyn, regardless of their political opinions.
“If I can help with any query or if you would just like to meet for a chat about an issue do let me know getting in touch via the contact details given on the back of this card.”
‘Grim’
Labour MP Jess Phillips has called the cards ‘grim’ and has questioned whether they are being paid for by the public purse.
She tweeted:
This is GRIM!
I actually don't think you're allowed to send these on public purse so if he is then he could be in trouble. We are in a ridiculous situation where using wrong postage in Parliament is more likely to get you fired than sexual misconduct. https://t.co/XrLsNaPFOx

Rob Roberts has completed the six-week suspension he was handed in May but has since been ordered to stay away from the House of Commons by the Conservative Party.
His parliamentary whip has not yet been reinstated so while he remains a member of the Conservative Party he is currently classed as an independent MP.

typical predatory sex pest behaviour, still can’t admit he’s done anything wrong?
To be accurate he is no longer a conservative party member so the actions, or lack, of his constituency in keeping him on are inexplicably sleazy.
Recall, reject, repudiate.
Somebody must surely have advised him to ‘Keep out of trouble, keep your head down, don’t do anything daft to draw attention to yourself etc..’ This bloke doesn’t sound like he’s safe to live in the community, let alone claim to be capable of looking after other people’s interests! He can’t see why sending cards to 18 year olds, including an offer to go for a ‘chat’, when he’s just been suspended because of inappropriate sexual conduct. This suggests he’s mentally deficient or a psychopath. It would be interesting to know which local Tories chose him for their candidate and… Read more »
When the word ‘Disgraced’ becomes permanently attached to your name it is surely time to get the hell out of politics.
