Plaid Cymru hit back at Andrew RT Davies claim that they ‘do not care about your job or your family’
Plaid Cymru have hit back at Conservative claims that they “do not care about your job or your family”.
Speaking yesterday, Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies claimed that the party “do not care about voters’ jobs or families,” just “ripping up the UK”.
A Plaid Cymru spokesman however responded to say that “the notion that the Tories have a semblance of credibility when it comes to protecting lives and livelihoods is laughable”.
“Everything about the Tories’ track record on the economy and NHS points towards them being utterly unfit to govern Wales and protect our people,” they said.
“Only a Plaid Cymru Government will put the interests of people of Wales first – leading us out of the pandemic and putting both our economy and our NHS on the road to recovery with a £6bn Green Economic Stimulus to create 60,000 jobs, and training and recruiting 6,000 new NHS staff.”
The party were responding to the Conservatives’ roadmap out of lockdown, which suggested lifting restrictions before that set out by Labour.
The Tories said this morning that they would end social distancing by June if they form the next Welsh Government. They would also open indoor hospitality, entertainment venues such as cinemas and soft play areas by 17 May.
But Plaid Cymru said that they had already botched the response to Covid at Westminster and couldn’t be trusted to run things in Wales.
“It was the Tories who refused the people of Wales an extension of furlough – a lifeline for thousands of businesses,” a spokesperson said.
“It was the Tories who botched the test and trace system – putting public health in peril. And it was the Tories who handed expensive government contracts to their already wealthy friends whilst hard-working Welsh businesses struggled to get by.”
‘Freedoms’
Speaking yesterday, Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies has claimed that the leaders of Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru do not care about voters’ jobs or families.
“Those two lecturers in Cardiff Bay, Messers Drakeford and Price, do not care about your job or your family, if it gives them the opportunity to play out ripping apart our United Kingdom,” he said.
He also accused the Welsh Government of imposing Covid-19 restrictions not just to stop the spread of the virus but because they wanted to “regulate and control” society.
“In short, Labour have enjoyed taking our freedoms away a little too much. They hang on to them a little too long,” he said.
“They’ve grown a little too fond of hearing themselves pass judgement on normal people, normal lives, and the public’s desire to return to some sort of normality.
“The First Minister and his cabinet see these lockdowns not as a pause to control a disease, but as the pushing of a reset button on society.
“It’s not about dealing with a threat, it’s about Labour seizing the opportunity to change lives and behaviours to suit their own socialist visions.
“Just because they don’t like foreign holidays, they don’t want people to have one either. Just because they don’t like a pint, they want to keep our pubs and restaurants closed for as long as possible.
“Just because they don’t like cars, they don’t want people driving. And just because they don’t like freedoms, they prefer to take ours away.”
