Plans lodged for expansion of Magor brewery which could create 50 new jobs

Plans for an expansion at Magor brewery which could create 50 new jobs have been lodged with Monmouthshire County Council.

Budweiser Brewing Group, which owns the brewery, announced that more jobs were to be created at the Magor site in June after a £70 million investment from the company.

The proposals, which include a new two-storey building with 10,015 sq m of floorspace and a height of 16-metres, are planned to help the brewery expand its production.

The building will include a production line for Perfect Draught beer kegs on the ground floor, a control room, canteen, laboratory accommodation and office space.

Proposals also include the erection of eight bright beer tanks, which will be almost 40 feet in height, and an associated control building.

The building is planned to be delivered in two stages, with the ground floor production line for filling beer kegs completed first.

A design and access statement says the proposals are “critical for the brewery” and will support the continued development of the site.

“The proposed new building and works will help the brewery expand its production by introducing a new production line for Perfect Draught beers kegs,” it says.

Products would be distributed to the brewery’s logistics hubs in Leeds and Lille in France.

‘Opportunities’

The proposed development would be in keeping with the wider brewery site and there would be no impact to the surrounding area, according to planning documents.

“The development is expected to generate numerous new jobs on site as well as further employment opportunities within the brewery’s national supply chain,” a planning statement adds.

“It is estimated that approximately 50 new jobs would be created at the Magor brewery as a result of the proposals.”

There is already sufficient parking on the site to accommodate the increase in staff numbers, according to the plans.

A parking area is included for tankers though, and an extended area of road within the brewery site will allow safe access for vehicles.

Budweiser says additional car journeys resulting from the development can be accommodated on the road network.

Monmouthshire council will assess the plans in the coming months.
